Obituary

James "Mickey" Ralph Underwood, 75, loving and devoted husband and father, passed away on March 4, 2008. A native of Southampton County, VA he was the son of the late Phillip Byrum Underwood and Ruby Ward Underwood. He was also predeceased by his wife, Peggy B. Underwood, a brother, Phillip Underwood and a sister, Betty Cole. Mickey retired from Suffolk Iron Works after 45 years of service as a Machinist-Welder. The owners and employees of Suffolk Iron Works were his extended family and he was well known as a dedicated employee. He was a member of Wilroy Baptist Church. Mickey was a Veteran of the United States Army and served in the Korean War, for which he was awarded the Purple Heart for heroic service to his country.

He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Deborah Underwood and Kay U. and Stick Baines; a brother Robert L. Underwood; a sister Sandy L. Underwood all of Suffolk; niece and nephews, Steve Barnes, Terry Barnes, Ricky Barnes and Donna Williams; Pop Pop's little ones, Dustin and Cheyanne; beloved dogs Angel and Jingle, who were his grandchildren; dear family friends that called him Daddy, Patty and Randy Rock; and several other nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, at 2 p.m. at Holly Lawn Cemetery, with Military Honors, officiated by Rev. George H. Close, Jr. Friends may join the family on Friday evening for visitation from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk.
