Obituary

Jimmie Johnson, age 66, husband of Linda T. Johnson and the son of the late Clyde and Mossie P. Johnson, Suffolk, passed away on January 9, 2009, surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia.

He graduated from Suffolk High School in 1961 and was a member of First Baptist Church and the Business Men's Bible Class.

Jimmie retired from the Suffolk Fire Department after 33 years. He had reached the rank of Battalion Chief having been a member of the HazMat team and Instructor I, II, II. He received numerous awards of achievement, and was trained under the Virginia Division of Forestry. He was an avid bowler, a NASCAR enthusiast and his passion was spending time at Kill Devil Hills with his granddaughters. He worked part time at Newton TV for 20 years and was also an employee of Sidney F. Harrell Funeral Home.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Linda; one daughter, Renee Strickland, son-in-law, Gene Strickland; granddaughters, Jenna Baker and Rachel Strickland; one great grandson, Andrew James Baker; one sister, Kay Johnson of Roswell, Georgia; numerous aunts, cousins and loving friends and one Goddaughter, Kim Jones.

He was lovingly cared for by Mary Langston and the Heartland Hospice team.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 12, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Bryan Ray and Rev. Charles Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill cemetery, with Firemen's rites. Friends may join the family for visitation on Sunday afternoon from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk.
