James Edward Hughes, Jr., 72, passed away January 3, 2020.  He was born in Portsmouth, VA the son of the late James Edward Hughes, Sr. and Stella Stewart Brinkley.  James was a United States Army veteran.  He later went on to work as a carpenter.

James is survived by his son, James David Hughes (Barbara); grandchild, Amanda Lee Hughes; step grandchildren, Carlos M. Gonzalez, Jr. (Amber) and Brandon J. Gonzalez (Stephanie); sisters, Jackie Basnight, Barbara Adams, Diane Ferebee (Mitch); numerous nieces and nephews.
