James "Jim" Stephen Groves, 85, died May 19, 2012 at his Smithfield home. Born in Hyattsville, MD, July 2, 1926, Mr. Groves served 20 years combined in the U.S. Navy during WWII and with the U.S. Army. Mr. Groves was then employed with Newport News Shipbuilding in the Electronic Systems Test Group until his retirement at age 62. Groves many interests included golf, the Washington Redskins, and gardening.

Mr. Groves was predeceased by his son, Benjamin "Buck".

He is survived by Jeanne C. Groves, his wife of 60 years, sons, James, Dean, and Mark, and his 8 grandchildren, Nick, Robert, Victoria, Mark, Anabell, Andrew, Jessica, and Caitlin.

A graveside service with full military honors will be held Saturday, May 26, 2012 at 11 a.m. at St. Luke's Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the American Legion following the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests making a donation to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, the Alzheimer's Association, or the charity of your choice.
