Today, we honor, James C. Butts, Sr., born September 2, 1931 in Pitt County, North Carolina.

Jay's courageous battle with cancer ended Friday, June 15, 2012. He celebrates life now with his parents, William Henry and Rosa Lee Murphy Butts of Green County, NC. Also joining in this heavenly celebration are his brothers, George, William Henry "Pete", Harvey, Joe Doc. His sisters, Ella, Molly Jane, Tinsy and Pennina "Tiency".

Jay worked for many years in auto body repairs. He later found his passion as grounds keeper at the Suffolk Golf Course where he retired after 25 years. Never one to sit still, Jay enjoyed retirement working with Alliance Fertilizer providing crop dusting chemicals to farmers. Jay loved being out, moving and meeting people. He always had a smile, a laugh, a handshake, and a kind word for everyone he met.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 30 years, Virginia and her children, Barbara and Kenneth. His son, the apple of his eye, Cleve Butts and his wife, Cindy. His brother and sister, Earl Butts and Lydia Crabtree. Jay was blessed with 7 grandchildren, Casey and her husband, Chris, Matthew and his wife, Crystal, Joshua and his wife, Lindsey, Cody, Myriah, JR and Ashley. Eight great grandchildren, Cayden, Raegan, Cooper, Savannah, Avery, Cambelle, Liam, and Serenity. Many nieces, nephews, and friends will always remember his laughter.

Many thanks to the nurses and doctors of Sentara Obici who showed great compassion and care. We were truly blessed.

We will symbolize his journey from Earth to Heaven with a graveside service on Monday, June 18, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Holly Lawn Cemetery with Pastor Carlton Smith officiating. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
