James Rudolph Byrd, Sr., 92, passed away September 11, 2020.  He was born in Nansemond County, VA the son of the late Jethro Jordan Byrd, Sr. and Grace Ellis Byrd.  He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Marion Phermelia Riddick Byrd; and his brother, Fred Byrd.  Rudolph worked for Vitex Packaging and also retired as a farmer.  He was a member of Cypress Chapel Christian Church and loved to fish and hunt.

Rudolph is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, James R. "Rudy" Byrd, Jr. (Jeanne); step granddaughter, Jennifer Friday; great grandchild, Hayden Friday; sister, Betty Byrd Knight; brothers and sister-in-law, Billy Byrd (Florence), and Jethro Byrd; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, September 26, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Tim Rawls officiating.  Burial will be held at Holly Lawn Cemetery at a later date.  Memorial donations may be made to Cypress Chapel Christian Church Cemetery.  Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
