James "Jimmy" Alton Franks, 72, passed away June 16, 2020.  He was born in Nansemond County, Virginia the son of the late Florence Norfleet Lassiter and John Alton Franks.  Jimmy was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Franks and his aunt and uncle, Cornelia N. and Raymond L. Babb whom he considered his second parents.  Jimmy served in the National Guard from 1966-1972.  He was the Owner/Operator of James Franks General Hauling and a retired Real Estate Assessor for over 30 years with the City of Newport News.  Jimmy was a member of the Suffolk Ruritans and was a Past President and Chairman of the Shrimp Feast.  He was also a member of the Progressive Club and a former Elks Lodge member.

Jimmy is survived by his wife of 40 years, Linda Carol Darden Franks; daughter, Brianne Franks Reedy (Mike); son, Brandon Franks (Jennifer); grandchildren, Christian, Gavin, Brynlee; sister, Cindy Grefe (Charles); and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside funeral service will be held Friday, June 19, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, 4569 Shoulders Hill Road, Suffolk, VA 23435 with Rev. Allen Lancaster officiating.  The family will receive friends Thursday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home and during that time social distancing is encouraged.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warriors online at support.woundedwarriorproject.org.  Once the service has occurred a video will be available for viewing on the funeral home website on his obituary page.  Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com .
