Obituary

James "Jim" Allen Smith, 76, passed away January 5, 2019. He was born in Savannah, GA the son of the late Samuel Fletcher Smith and Eunice Craig Smith. He was predeceased by his son, Quinton Vaughan Smith; and siblings, Barbara L. Reynolds, Samuel F. Smith, Jr. and Anthony Craig Smith. Jim was a United States Air Force Veteran and an honorary member of the VFW Post #4411. He has worked for the last 16 years as an administrative assistant for Catlee, Inc. T/A McDonald's, where he was adored by numerous co-workers.

Jim is survived by his wife of 27 years, Brenda Sutton Smith; daughters, Tara S. Wilkins (Gerry), Wanda LaVonne Dickey (Leon); grandchildren, Morgan Elizabeth McCaw (Erik), Skylar Tate Goodman (Richard), and Timothy Shane McCaw; sisters, Kathryn S. Kramer (Richard), and Norma S. Gearhart (Gary); and numerous nieces and nephews, who all recognized and loved him as the Smith Family patriarch.

The response and outpouring of love and support over the past few days depicts the everlasting impact that he had on so many lives, both young and old. His family is sure that he was never aware of the wide net that he cast on so many.

He taught through action to always put family first and to love unconditionally. He taught his family how to eat boiled peanuts and that wearing flip flops in 20-degree weather was perfectly acceptable. He believed that time together as a family was the best and ONLY time and he taught his family that it is always 5 o'clock somewhere!

He was the brightest star in his family's universe and for many others. We are eternally grateful for the love of this tough, loving, handsome, fair, cantankerous, intelligent, unique, genuine, family-oriented, one-of-a-kind soul.

Please help Jim's family carry on his love of flip flops by donning your best pair at his Celebration of Life and feel free to combine it with your best tropical shirt and heavily-starched jeans. A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory. His family would love to have any and all at his home at 103 Davenport Court Suffolk, Va after the ceremony  to continue the celebration of his life. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Suffolk Humane Society. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
