Jacquelyn "Jackie"
Dismukes Mcnair
May 10, 1945 – May 12, 2025
Jacquelyn "Jackie" Dismukes McNair, 80, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2025 in Suffolk, Virginia after a lengthy battle with heart disease. She was born on May 10, 1945 in Enterprise, Alabama to two loving parents, Francis Marvin Dismukes and Annie Arnez Dismukes. She was lovingly watched over by her older brother, Robert Marion Dismukes (Cecelia) of Brundidge, Alabama who preceded her death in 2024.
In 1984, she met her husband Gary Thomas McNair of Biloxi, Mississippi and they were united in marriage February of 1985. They shared 31 years together before Jackie lost Gary to esophageal cancer in November of 2016 in Brundidge, Alabama. After several years of living alone, she accepted the invitation to relocate to Zuni, Virginia to be near her daughter and family where she lived until her passing.
Jackie is survived by her children: daughter Joanna Johnson Erwin (Jay) of Zuni, Virginia and son James Daniel Johnson (Lisa) of Chancellor, Alabama. She also leaves behind her stepchildren: Anthony Thomas McNair (Erin) of Bradenton, Florida and Wylinda Marie Cutrer (Brandon) of Pass Christian, Mississippi.
Jackie's most devoted companion in her later years was her little dog, "Sophie". The two were inseparable, sharing comfort, loyalty, and unconditional love through life's ups and downs for 13 years. Sophie mourns for her mom, but through a loving gesture she will be relocating to
live with Anthony and Erin in Florida.
Jackie endured many challenges in her life, and she faced each one with quiet strength and perseverance. She was a simple woman with a simple life. She found joy in life's small pleasures such as watching the birds at her feeder, watering and tending to her flowers, curling up with a good book or an old movie, and enjoying an occasional cocktail on the porch.
A private family burial for Jackie and Gary will take place in her hometown of Enterprise, Alabama.
Jackie is greatly missed. Her legacy will live on in the lives of her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with her extended family and countless friends who will remember her resilience and love. Our mother is free from the chains of sickness. Glory to God.
