James Emery Nichols, 80, passed away September 3, 2022.  He was born in Suffolk, VA the son of the late Charlie Emery Nichols and Ethel Duke Nichols.  He was predeceased by his brother, William Talmadge "Tom" Nichols.  In his earlier years he was in the Air Force Reserve.  Emery retired as the Director of Real Estate Division and Business Line Manager for Real Estate, Atlantic Division Naval Facilities Engineer Command.  He was a member of Liberty Spring Christian Church where he was Deacon Emeritus, a Trustee, and active on numerous committees.  He also taught Sunday School for numerous years.  Emery actively served his community throughout the years by his membership in the Liberty Spring Ruritan Club and his employment as a funeral assistant with Parr Funeral Home.

Emery is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sue Harrell Nichols; daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret "Meg" N. Taylor (Travis), Sara N. Cooper (John); grandchildren, Stephen, Darden, Meredith, and Annalee; sister, Judy N. Kovalik (Richard); sister-in-law, Carolyn English Nichols; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, September 11, 2022 at 12 p.m. at Liberty Spring Christian Church with Rev. Res Spears officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Friends may join the family for a time of visitation Saturday evening from 6-7 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory.  Memorial donations in honor of Emery may be made to Liberty Spring Christian Church, 4213 Whaleyville Blvd., Suffolk, VA 23434.  Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.  The family would like to give special thanks to Hubert Arrington from Home Instead for the loving care he gave.
