Ira "John" Weintraub, 82, of Suffolk, VA passed away March 1, 2012. He was born in Brooklyn, NY. John is predeceased by his wife, Laura and son, Stuart. He retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer and Construction Mechanic from the U.S. Navy Seabees after 30 years of service. He was a life member of Fleet Reserve Assoc., Disabled Veterans Assoc., VFW, NRA, McAllister Lodge #185 AF and AM, CEC/SEABEE Historical Foundation.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Redd and husband J.W. Redd of Suffolk, VA; son, Roy Weintraub and wife Sara of Arkansas; 5 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; sister, Miriam of Charleston, SC; cousin Joel of Las Vegas, NV; and his many friends from the Suffolk YMCA and friends on the CB radio. A special thank you to all the hospice nurses and aides.
A memorial service with military honors will be held Monday, March 5, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Western Branch Baptist Church, 6952 Old Myrtle Rd., Suffolk, VA 23434, with Rev. Micah Voight officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in his name to Heartland Hospice, 5029 Corporate Woods Dr. Suite 200, Virginia Beach, VA 23462, and Western Branch Baptist Church.
