Hugh "Dickie" Henry Dickerson, III, passed away April 14, 2019 at age 67 following a courageous battle with ALS. He was the son of the late Hugh Henry Dickerson, Jr. and Virginia Ann Sours Dickerson of Richmond, VA and was a long time resident of Chesterfield County. During his 32 years of service with Chesterfield County police department he served in the capacity of Deputy Sherriff, Patrol Officer, Investigator, Senior and Master Police Officer, VICE, SWAT, and became the department's first narcotics dog handler. Following his retirement he went to work in Powhatan County as a deputy until 2012. While in law enforcement he received numerous commendations and service awards for his bravery and self-sacrifice.
Hugh is survived by his sons, Jason Dickerson and Shawn Dickerson (Emily); granddaughter, Anystin Dickerson; siblings, Wayne Dickerson, Roy Dickerson, Sam Dickerson, and Jenny Sue Garrett; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, June 1st, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Passion Community Church (PCC), 4480 Anderson Hwy., Powhatan, VA 23139 with Rev. Dr. Brian C. Hughes officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in honor of Dickie, to the ALS Association (www.alsa.org). Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
