Obituary

On April 3, 2023, Hildegard Elisabeth Schiener Malaby, 89, went to the Heavenly Father.
Born June 3, 1933 in Regensburg, Germany, Hilda led a charmed life as a survivor of World War II bombing. Part of her childhood was in Friedenfels, Germany, in Bavaria on the farm of her family members. Hildegard met Jack Malaby, First Sergeant, US Army, in Regensburg as she worked in a retail store selling high end merchandise.
Jack and Hilda traveled extensively with their young family with fond memories of Hawaii, before settling in Lorton, Virginia. Once Jack retired from the Federal Government, he and Hilda, having raised their family, pursued and enjoyed the simple pleasure of life. Hilda volunteered for many organizations and was proud of her work in the United States White House, answering phones during Jimmy Carter years. Hilda also served as a Voter Registrar for 35 years and used her sales entrepreneurship to buy and sell at yard sales/markets, wooden items made by Jack or purchased and cleaned up by Hilda. Hildegard enjoyed having an open door and entertained the neighborhood, including multiple friends with Octoberfest, tea parties and a New Year celebration.
In 2006, Hilda and Jack moved to Suffolk, Virginia to be closer to their ever-expanding family. Hilda promptly became a family member to many in the neighborhood, improved upon the home landscaping with flowers, joined different bridge groups and regularly attended church functions.
Hilda was a friend to everyone she met from a grocery clerk to nurses during hospital stays. To her family, Hilda was a force of nature and inspiration to all, as a wonderful wife, daughter, sister, sister- in-law, mother-in-law, an Oma and great Oma (grandmother).
Hildegard is preceded in death by parents, Anna and Wilhelm Schiener, sister Teresa Cantrell and beloved spouse, Jack Henson Malaby, after 62 years of marriage, and daughter in law, Beth Malaby.
Hilda bodily leaves behind her son, Wade and Heather Malaby of Sandbridge, Virginia; grandchildren, Amber, Landon (Kate) and Dalton; son Brian of Warrenton, Virginia; and grandchildren, Kenneth, Caroline and Sarah; son Jeff and Rhonda Malaby of Wilmington, North Carolina; grandchildren, Ryan and Katie (Ryan) Pepple; and great grandchildren, Cash, Channing and Caven; son, Bruce and Lisa Malaby of Suffolk, Virginia; and grandchild Ian.
