Obituary

Today, we honor the life of Henry McCoy Taylor, Jr. Henry was so much to so many! Loved beyond measure and will be missed beyond words. We rest in the assurance that he is in heaven with his Lord and Savior, Jesus in this, there is comfort.

Henry celebrates today with those gone before him. His parents, Henry and Jane Taylor; brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Leona Taylor; and grandson, Noah Taylor.

Henry was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force stationed in Germany. He began his civilian career as a welder at Newport News Shipbuilding and later became a welder at Norfolk Naval Shipyard where he retired as a general foreman in Shop 26. After his retirement, he began driving a bus for Suffolk Public Schools.

Left to cherish the memories of Henry's life and love is his wife of 66 years, Louise. He was a proud father to his daughters and their husbands (whom he loved as his own), Terry and Billy Bradshaw, and Cindy and Cleve Butts; his son, Thomas and Holly Taylor. In his biggest role, he was Geeg to his grandchildren - Elizabeth Blair (Richard), Jon Bradshaw, Casey Thomas (Chris), Matt Butts (Crystal), Josh Butts (Lindsey), Brittany Cordell (Moi), Lauren Gonzalez (Eric), Grant and Morgan Taylor, and Austin Davenport. He dearly loved his 15 great grandchildren. He passes the torch as "Head of the Taylor Gang" to his little brother, Jerry and wife, Yvonne. Also left to cherish his memory are his nieces and nephew, Crystal, Jennifer, Leigh, Sheila and Jim; sister-in-law, Lillie Jernigan; and "his girls", Nancy Weeks and Allison Taylor.

Henry was a member of Southside Baptist Church and loved the men in his Sunday School class. He thought of them as the greatest group in the Church led by "his buddy", Malcom Bunch.

A service to honor Henry's wishes will be held Thursday, May 11, 2023, at 11:30 am, Southside Baptist Church, Suffolk, VA with his grandson, Josh Butts officiating. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Southside Baptist Church.
