Haywood Woodard Briggs, 87, of Suffolk, VA passed away May 5, 2015. He was born in Suffolk, VA to the late Joseph and Nina Briggs. He is also predeceased by his sister, Evelyn B. Nelms. Haywood worked as the store manager for Empire Machinery. Haywood was a member of Suffolk Christian Church where he served as President of the Baraca Sunday school class, Deacon Emeritus, choir member, and on numerous boards and committees. He also was a past member of Wilroy Ruritan Club and volunteered with the Soup Kitchen and Meals on Wheels.

Haywood is survived by his wife of 57 years, Annie Barnes Briggs; son, Joseph "Joey" Haywood Briggs and wife, Pam; grandsons, Alex Scott and Adam Briggs; brother, Herbert Briggs; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held Friday, May 8, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Suffolk Christian Church with Rev. Michael D. Halley officiating. Burial will take place one hour prior to the service at Holly Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home and Crematory.
