February 20, 1942 – March 31, 2024
Harrell Griffin Jory, a lifelong resident of Suffolk, VA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 31, 2024 at the age of 82. He was born in Portsmouth, VA to the late Josephine G. and John M Jory Sr. He was predeceased in death by his brothers John and Gordon Jory and his sister Annie Jo Rees. He was a 1960 graduate of Chuckatuck High School and a 1978 graduate of Tidewater Community College. He was also a veteran having served in the United States Army. He later went on to work and retire after 36 years from Newport News Shipbuilding as a construction supervisor. Harrell was a longtime member of Magnolia Methodist Church and a current member of Westminster Reformed Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Suffolk Elks Lodge, Magnolia Ruritan Club with 44 years of perfect attendance, Post #57 of the American Legion, The Progressive Club of Newport News Shipbuilding, The Progressive Club of Suffolk, and a former National Director of Travelers Protective Association and was the current Virginia State Secretary for The Travelers Protective Association of America and a member of the Hardee's Breakfast Club. He was an avid Nascar fan and New York Yankee's fan.
Harrell is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Rose Turner Jory, his daughter Kelly Jory Griffin (Brian) and grandchildren Ethan and Carly Griffin; sister Nancy Schreyer; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service with Elk's Rights will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 4pm at Westminster Reformed Presbyterian Church, 3488 Godwin Blvd., Suffolk, VA 23434, with a visitation to follow with Pastor Ross Turner officiating. Burial with military honors will be private at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery and held at a later date. Family and friends are welcome to visit the family at Harrell's home. Due to the limited number of flowers allowed at the burial service, the family strongly encourages you make a donation to one of the following in Harrell's name: The Deacons fund at Westminster Church, the Travelers Protective Association Hearing Trust or the Dementia Foundation of America.
