Harl Alan "Al" Chesley, born September 12, 1944, in Silverton, Oregon, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2026, in Chesapeake, Virginia, at the age of 81.
Al proudly served his country for 24 years in the United States Navy, retiring with the distinguished rank of Chief. Following his retirement from military service, Al embraced his entrepreneurial spirit by operating successful contracting and home inspection businesses.
A man of nature, Al cherished his time spent outdoors. Whether tending to his garden or casting a line while fishing, he found solace in these simple pleasures. Above all, Al was a devoted family man who deeply loved his family and especially adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harl Elmer Chesley and Luanna Corrine Alexander Chesley; his wife of 25 years, Gloria Jean Chesley; his daughter, Angela Chesley Hardy; and his brother, Don Chesley.
Al's legacy lives on through his loving wife of ten and a half years, Jerrie "Susie" Chesley; his children, Rusty Chesley, Alan Paul Chesley, Cyndi Sheppard, and Bryan Riley (Jennifer); his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his brothers, David and Jerry Chesley; and his many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Al's life at a funeral service held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, with Father Brian Rafferty officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. Prior to the service, there will be a visitation from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Foundation. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
Al's love for his family, commitment to his country, and passion for nature will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be dearly missed.
