Gerald Abbott, 86, of Virginia Beach went home to be with Our Lord Sunday, February 19 in Norfolk, Virginia. Born March 22, 1930 in Townsend, Va, to Bertie and Manie Abbott. Gerald was the youngest of nine children, four brothers, Bertie Jr., Leroy, Grayson, and David and four sisters, Gertrude (Eacker), Violet (Clark), Ella (Edwards), and Susie (Kelley), all deceased. Spending most of his life on the Eastern Shore, he attended Cheriton School before going to work with the Cape Charles and Kiptopeke ferry systems, later taking a job with Bayshore Concrete as a laborer, retiring in 1996.

Gerald dedicated his life working for Jesus as a disciple, telling everyone he came in contact with about the saving grace of God. Claiming the gift of salvation over 50 years ago, Gerald believed everyone should be given the opportunity to be saved.

Gerald is survived by his son, Gerald Dwayne Abbott and wife Dorothy of Chester, Virginia; daughter Sherrie Hedrick of Virginia Beach; four grandchildren, Gerald D. Abbott Jr. of North Chesterfield Va, Christopher F. Abbott of Midlothian Va, Chastity Browning and husband Brandon of Virginia Beach, Va and Alexandria Pamp of San Diego, Ca; and four Great grandchildren. He was married to the former Vivian Widgeon of Oyster.

Funeral arrangements are being made by Parr Funeral Home in Suffolk. A memorial Service will take place at Full Gospel Church, Cape Charles, Va on Tuesday, February 21 at 2:00 PM . Visitors may call at the church between 1:00-2:00 . Interment will follow at the Masonic Cemetery in Capeville.
