Thomas Powell
July 14, 1947 – October 21, 2021
George "Tommy" Thomas Powell, 74, passed away October 21, 2021. He was born in Suffolk, VA the son of the late Sydney Waldon Powell, Jr. and Edith Eason Hunter Powell. He was predeceased by his sister, Sylvia; and brother, Homer.
Tommy loved his wife, Linda Harrell Powell, with all his heart for over 50 years. He loved his daughters, Christy Michelle Powell Cordova and Tammy Powell Motley; sons-in-laws, Edward "Chris" Christopher Cordova and Ernest "Ed" Edward Motley; grandsons, Hunter Franklin Motley, Landon Cole Cordova, Nolan Luke Cordova, and Dalton Jude Cordova. Tommy loved his horses. When he was younger he won many awards at horse shows in North Carolina and Virginia. He loved to farm, and he owned Tommy Powell's Landscaping. Tommy was a longtime member of The Farm Bureau and served as a Board Member for many years. Tommy was a United States Army veteran. He was a true patriot. He was a past member of Bethlehem Ruritan Club and Bethlehem Christian Church. Tommy later became a member of Southside Baptist Church where he was a member of the Men's Bible Class.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Bethlehem Christian Church with Rev. Wayne Gardner officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may also join the family other times at the residence of Tommy and Linda. Memorial donations may be made to the Bethlehem Christian Church Cemetery Fund.
