George Earl Hammond, 64, of Windsor, VA passed away April 14, 2009. He was born in Portsmouth, VA the son of the late George B. Hammond and Ivey Taylor McDaniel. He was also predeceased by his other father, William McDaniel. In his earlier years George served in the National Guard. He later went on to retire from the central office of GTE, now Verizon.

George is survived by his wife of 29 years, Mary Ellen O. Hammond of Windsor, VA; brother, Emmett Wayne Hammond of Emporia, VA; niece, Cheryl Taylor and husband Mike; nephew, Earl Wayne Hammond and wife Amber; cousins, Todd, Linda, Ben, Carol and Dean and numerous great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 19, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Dr., Suffolk, VA with Rev. Douglas Van Niel officiating.
