Genevieve Harrell Hewitt, 75, passed away September 12, 2024.  She was born in Suffolk, VA the daughter of the late Mildred Novella Rodgers and Sidney Fletcher Harrell.  Genevieve was predeceased by her brother, Aaron Rodgers Harrell.  She was a retired RN at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.  Genevieve was a member of Somerton Friends Meeting and a member of Eastern Star, Whaleyville Chapter # 137, where she served as Grand Electa from 2003-2004 and Grand Representative to Kentucky from 2011-2013.

Genevieve is survived by her daughters, Christina M. Pennington, Susie H. Hill (Paul), Elizabeth H. Shirley (Kevin); grandchildren, Tiffani Callaway, Destani Pennington, Noah Hill, Hannah Hill, Sophie Shirley, Matthew Shirley; great grandchild, Damien Callaway; sister, Phyllis H. Garlick (Larry); former son-in-law, John Pennington and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service with Eastern Star Rites will be held Wednesday, September 18, 2024, 11:00 a.m., at Somerton Friends Meeting, 5329 Quaker Drive, Suffolk, VA 23434 with Pastor Richard Wilcox officiating.  A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, condolences may be made to the Somerton Friends Meeting or Somerton Friends Cemetery Fund, P.O.
