Obituary

Gary Lee Oliver, 63, of Suffolk, passed away on May 2, 2010. A native of Philadelphia, PA he was the son of the late Jesse Allen Oliver and was predeceased by one grandson, James Reeves, III. He served in the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam Conflict. Gary was a widely respected manufacturing representative in the heating and plumbing industry for over 35 years. He worked statewide, the last thirteen of which were proudly with Dominion Marketing. He was a member of Holy Neck Christian Church. He was a member of the McAlister Lodge #185 A.F. & A.M.; member and past president of the Box Elder Hunt Club; N. B. Chavis Club Hunt; and a founder and coach of the Whaleyville Athletic Association.

He is survived by his wife of eleven years, Joan O'Brien Oliver; a son and daughter-in-law, W. Allen Oliver and Kim Bass Oliver of Suffolk, VA; two daughters, Tracy C. Oliver and fiancé James D. Reeves, Jr. of Carrsville, VA and Kristen D. Oliver of Suffolk, VA; sixteen grandchildren: Cheyenne B. Eure, Cheyenne V. Oliver, Raven S. Oliver, Austin Oliver, Brody Bogardus, Preston Bradshaw, Skylar Oliver, Fallon Oliver, Ian Anderson, Grant Bradshaw, Isaac Anderson, Aidan Bogardus, Iyana Berhanu, Mekada Berhanu, Paris Reeves and Charlie Reeves; his mother and stepfather, Emily Jane Smith Oliver Bartlett and Charles Bartlett of Mogadore, OH; stepsons and wives, Alan and Jennifer Anderson of Chico, CA and Andrew and Jaime Berhanu of Dresden, ME and deeply loved by his stepdaughter and husband, Alexis and Rich Bogardus of Albany, NY; sister and brother-in-law, Gail Oliver and Alan Donaldson of Mckeesport, PA and a brother, Christopher Oliver.

A Celebration of Life Service with Masonic Rites will be held on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, with Rev. Dr. Reggie Warren officiating. Burial will be private. Friends may join the family for visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the McAlister Lodge #185 A.F. & A.M.
