Obituary

Fred Raymond Zummo, 62, passed away on February 9, 2022. He was born July 10, 1959 in the Bronx, NY to the late Viola Jutt and Fred Zummo. He is also predeceased by his "bonus" mom, Ellen Zummo.

He joined the US Air Force in 1978 at 18 years old. He did numerous deployments and fought in Operation Desert Storm. His love for his country was obvious. He always talked about his time spent in the service and the lifelong brothers and friends he made while there. He retired in 1998 and was very proud to have served his country and to be an American. After retirement from the Air Force, he moved to Suffolk, VA to be closer to his daughter. There he started a new career working at Parker Oil, where he made even more lifelong friends. He spent the next 19 years working there and planned to retire on January 7, 2022.

One of Fred's greatest accomplishments was being a father to Tifany. She called her dad, "her superhero" and even as an adult, she still sees him that way. She was his first priority throughout her life and he was always there for her. He enjoyed every moment life had to offer and taught his daughter to do the same. He was an amazing and loving father to his daughter; and when she married, he became a great role model, friend, and loving father to his son in law, Russ.

One of his proudest moments was becoming a grandfather to Zachary. He told everyone about his grandson and how proud of him he was. He loved spending time with him playing video games, shooting guns, having long talks, teaching life lessons, and just spending time together. Like the amazing father he was, he was also an amazing grandfather.

He was the kind of man that made people feel welcome in his life, whether he was helping someone move, offering advice, opening his home for someone to stay, or just being supportive to his loved ones. Fred would go above and beyond for the people he cared about. He was a loving brother and uncle. He loved his family and talked about them often to anyone that would listen. He was also a great friend and was loved and appreciated by many. He also enjoyed his meat smoker and loved having everyone taste what he had made. He was always trying a new meat and recipe. It was one of his favorite hobbies besides his guns and ammo.

Fred is survived by his daughter, Tifany Adkison (Russ); grandson, Zachary Adkison; sister, Lynn Cruz (Dennis); brothers, Billy Palmer and Tom Zummo (Gail); aunts and uncles; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
