Frank was a devoted husband, father, and pappy, who dedicated his life to his family and community and absolutely adored his "Girls". He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Isaac Newman Piland and Gladys Iantha Pulley Piland, as well as his sisters, Martha Bell, Sue Hancock, and Anne Wright; and brothers, Joseph Piland and Thomas Piland.

He is survived by his cherished wife of 65 years, Barbara "Bobbie" Lee Pierce Piland, their daughter Mona Lynn Piland, and two adored grandchildren, Carolyn "Calee" Rawls and Gabrielle "Gaby" Rawls. Frank also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who fondly remember him as Uncle "Dee".

Frank graduated from Suffolk High School as the Class of 1959. From his high school years until he joined the United States Army, Frank worked at People's Drug Store. He spent his career working in Chemical Inventory at Union Camp, where he was known for his dedication and strong work ethic. Outside of work, he found joy in woodworking, creating beautiful pieces his family will treasure for generations. He also loved dogs, birdwatching, fishing, watching and attending sports events and NASCAR. He had a green thumb and the best grass in Suffolk. Every year, he grew the most beautiful sunflowers in his garden. He was also a longtime member of Bunny's Breakfast Club.

As a member of Providence United Methodist Church, Frank's faith was a cornerstone of his life. He was an active participant in the church community, finding strength and fellowship among his fellow congregants.
