Frank Norman Speights, 81, formerly of Indianapolis, Ind., died March 16, 2006. He was a native of Putnam County, Indiana. Frank retired after 26 1/2 years from the U.S. Air Force. He served his country during World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam. He later went on to work as the technical managing editor for Macmillan Publishing Company. He was the son of the late Billy and Edith C. P. Speights. He was also predeceased by two sisters, Velma Hargraves and Billie "Sis" Harless and an adopted brother, Tommy Hargraves. Frank was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He valued education and made sure his family had every opportunity to continue their learning. He was a very generous man and will surely be remembered for his giving spirit. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Barbara Babette Hoffman Speights of Suffolk; daughters, Norma Babette Benedict of Suffolk and Edith Emelie Fidler of Orlando, Fla.; son and daughter-in-law, Karl Wayne and Karen Ann Speights of Suffolk; five grandchildren, Terri and Bobby Davies, Matthew and Petra Speights, Christopher and Amy Benedict, Renee and Jared Thomas and Lorrin Fidler; 14 great-grandchildren, Courtney, Corey, Jacob, McKenzie, Sammy, Bailey and Sydney Benedict, Serena, Kyle and Bradley Davies, Aubrey and Conner Thomas, Joshua and Caleb Speights A funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Parr Funeral Home. A time of visitation will follow after the service at the funeral home. Interment in Arlington National Cemetery with military honors. Pastor Gary Bryant will be officiating.
