Frances Poarch
Holland
April 9, 1921 – January 30, 2018
Frances Poarch Holland, 96, of Suffolk, VA passed away on January 30, 2018. A native of Brunswick County, VA she was the daughter of the late Louise Bowen Poarch McConnell and Norborne Tucker Poarch, Sr. Frances was a graduate of William and Mary College and became a school teacher in Nansemond County, VA. She was a member of West End Baptist Church since 1936. She taught Sunday School, was president of the Friendship class, and served on numerous committees. Frances was a member of the Suffolk Women's Club and was a past president. She was a board member of the Virginia Lung Association; served on the Suffolk Red Cross; and was a volunteer at Sentara Obici Hospital as well as a volunteer in the Meals on Wheels program.
Frances was predeceased by her first husband of 43 years, Jesse Darden "Smokey" Langston, Sr. and their family produced a daughter, Nancy L. Lenz; and son, J. Darden Langston, Jr. (Suzanne); grandchildren, Hunter Lenz (Allyson), Thomas Lenz (Jenny), Lee Langston (Jenni), Breanne Presson (Brooklyn), Jenna Langston; great grandchildren, Devon, Kylee, Isabelle, Caddie, J.D., and Charlotte; brother, N.T. Poarch, Jr.; niece, Judy; nephews, Tuck and Billy; and special cousin, Sarah Haddock. Frances is survived by her husband of 26 years, Morris Clarke Holland and their marriage added to her family a step daughter, Sharon Parham (Kim) and 3 other children who have since passed away; step grandchildren, Clarke Parham, Brent Parham, Laurie Barnes, Aimee Foley, Amber Russell, Michael Holland; and 9 step great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 2 p.m. at West End Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. J. Robert Pipkin officiating. Burial will follow at Somerton United Methodist Church Cemetery. Friends may join the family for a time of visitation Friday evening from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society and the Alzheimer's Association. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
