Obituary

Floyd "Buck" Albert Powell, 79, of Suffolk, VA passed away August 18, 2008. He was born in Smithfield, VA the son of the late Harvey and Mary Valentine. He was a U.S. Army veteran after serving during the Korean War. Buck retired after 30 years as the grounds and building supervisor for V.D.O.T. He was a member of the Independence Christian Church in Ashland, VA and was also a member of the Suffolk Elks Lodge #685.

Buck is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lucille and Jethro Darden of Suffolk, VA; grandchildren, Bernard, Dennis, and Billie Jean; step grandchildren, Everett and David; great grandchildren, Devin, Ashley, Chelsey, Brittany, John Jr., and Jordan; step great grandchildren, Matthew and Heather; sister, Susie Belle McNamara of Richmond, VA; foster sisters, Elizabeth Cannon of Ashland, VA, Kathleen DePanicis of Ashland, VA; foster brother, Russell Bumpass of Ashland, VA.

A graveside service will be held Friday, August 22, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Holly Lawn Cemetery with Rev. Charles W. Thompson officiating. Friends may join the family Thursday night from 7-8 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Dr., Suffolk, VA, and other times at the residence.
