Faye Stanley Harrell, 80, of Suffolk, Virginia, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on June 11, 2026.
Born on November 2, 1945, in a quaint home on Pinner Street in the City of Suffolk, Faye was the daughter of Curtis Edward Stanley and Selma Ree Vann Stanley. She graduated at the top of her class from Suffolk High School in 1964. Her Red Raider pride remained strong throughout her life, and she often shared fond memories of the teachers, classmates, and experiences that shaped her during those years. Faye was actively involved in academic, athletic, and civic organizations, developing a lifelong appreciation for community service and leadership.
Grounded in her faith, Faye was a devoted lifelong member of Southside Baptist Church. Throughout the years, she faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher, youth sponsor, and member of numerous church committees and boards. She played a significant role in the church’s building campaign during the 1970’s/1980’s and was instrumental in the design and construction of the sanctuary addition under the leadership of Reverend Bud Hardy. Her commitment to her church family and her faith was evident in every aspect of her life.
Faye was also deeply engaged in the Suffolk community. As a charter member of the Nansemond River Pilot Club, she served in numerous leadership roles, including President and Treasurer. She was a member of the Suffolk Historical Society, the Republican Women's Club, and several other civic organizations, often serving as treasurer and lending her financial expertise to support their missions.
Known for her grace, professionalism, and integrity, Faye earned the respect and admiration of all who knew her. She began her accounting career with Henry Simpson in Suffolk, where she worked for more than 25 years. Following that chapter of her career, she continued her work in accounting with Dixon Hughes Goodman & Company in downtown Norfolk. After an impressive 55-year career in the accounting profession, she retired, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and dedication. Even in retirement, family and friends frequently sought her guidance and expertise, which she generously shared.
Family was the center of Faye’s life. She treasured time spent with loved ones and had a special gift for bringing people together. Whether hosting holiday celebrations, organizing spontaneous fish fries after a day on the water, or preparing a favorite meal for family members, she found great joy in creating lasting memories. Her love of surf fishing began in childhood during trips to the Outer Banks with her parents, a passion that grew into a cherished family tradition of annual summer vacations.
Faye embraced life with enthusiasm and enjoyed a wide range of hobbies and interests. She found joy in interior decorating, attending NASCAR races, playing cards, gardening, researching family history, and gathering with friends and family for fellowship. Whatever the activity, she delighted in teaching others, sharing her knowledge, and creating opportunities for connection.
Faye was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis Edward Stanley and Selma Vann Ellis; her daughter, Sonya Ree Williams; her son, Bryan Todd Williams; and her husband, Sherwood Leon Harrell.
She leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and love to be cherished by her daughter, Tara Williams Outland (Carl); son, Stanley Leon Harrell (Linda); and daughter, Kimberly Harrell Williams (Danny). She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Leslie Danielle Taylor (Dillon), Barrett Todd Moore, Bryan Mitchell Moore, Lyndsay Outland Duke (Trevor), and Carlton Taylor Outland (Rebecca); and her treasured great-grandchildren, Revel Nathaniel Taylor, Ava Larkin, Everly Larkin, Zoey Duke, Sawyer Duke, Kaylee Outland, and Rhett Outland. She is further survived by her sisters, Linda Stanley Writtenberry (Butch) and Lisa Stanley Helms, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
