Obituary

Everette Mabry Scott, Jr., 63, of Windsor, Virginia died peacefully on December 16, 2017, after a brief illness. Everette, beloved son, husband and father, was born and lived his entire life in Windsor, a town he loved. He was a graduate of Isle of Wight Academy, Class of 1972, after which he attended Elon College. He worked in his family's business, E. M. Scott, Inc., until his father's illness. He retired but soon returned to working with trucks, his lifelong passion, at Suffolk International Trucking. There he remained until he retired for the second time. After a brief retirement, he began serving as a substitute teacher for Isle of Wight schools, a job that he embraced with joy, becoming involved in the lives of the students he served.

An active member of his community, Everette served in many capacities at his life long church, Windsor Congregational Christian, serving as a deacon and a member of the Finance Committee, as well as serving on the Pulpit Committee and the Pastoral Relations Committee. He was a member of the Windsor Volunteer Fire Department for forty-eight years, as well as a member of the Windsor Ruritan Club and the William & Mary Tribe Club. He served for years and was a founding member of the Windsor Planning Commission. His passions were his family and cooking; he loved spending time with special friends. Everette is survived by his wife of forty-one years, Luann West Scott and his devoted daughter, Elizabeth Hampton Scott-Francis and her husband, Adam Francis, his mother, Anna Hall Scott, his brother Wayne and his wife, Julie, and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Helen and Fred Barrett, and wonderful nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Everette is pre-deceased by his father, Mabry Scott.

Visitation will be at Windsor Congregational Christian on Tuesday, December 19, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Windsor Congregational Christian Church on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at 2 p.m. Burial will be private at Windsor Cemetery.
