Eva Lucille Harrell Barden, 88, died Sunday, March 16, 2008, at Sumter Health and Rehab., Sumter, SC.
Born September 11, 1919, in Gates County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Maxie H. Harrell and the late Alice Rebecca Piland Harrell. She graduated as Salutatorian of the class of 1936, Gates County High School, Gates, NC.
After graduation, she moved to Suffolk, VA and was employed by Planters Nut & Chocolate Co., where she met and married the late Terence V. Barden. She later worked at Thomas J. Lipton Tea Company and retired after more than 20 years of service. She was a member of the Lipton Ambassadors Club.
Mrs. Barden had been a resident of Clarendon County since 1992. She was a faithful member of Manning United Methodist Church and was also a volunteer with Clarendon Memorial Hospital accumulating more than 1700 hours of service.
In addition to her husband of 38 years, Mrs. Barden was predeceased by a daughter, Lucille "Cille" Berry, six brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carol B. and Thomas L. Peterson, 414 Thames St., Manning, SC 29102, with whom she lived, two granddaughters, Mary Alice Sutherlin of Simpsonville, SC, Joyce R. Gardner (Mike) of Inman, SC, a grandson, James V. Green (Jamesia) of Bowie, MD, a great grandson, Brett "Sly" Sutherlin of Simpsonville, SC, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Parr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk, VA, with the Rev. Billy Presley officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
