Eric DeShield Farkas, born on March 16, 1971, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2026, in Durham, North Carolina, at the age of 55.
Eric was a dedicated and diligent Occupational Health & Safety Specialist, having retired from his position at Norfolk Naval Shipyard.
Beyond his professional life, Eric had a deep passion for fishing and hunting, pursuits that brought him great joy and tranquility. His love for Hot Rods was well known among friends and family, as was his enjoyment of gardening, barbecuing, and cooking—a testament to his love for life’s simple pleasures. Eric was also an avid collector of Richard Petty racing memorabilia, proudly displaying his collection.
Eric was a member of Jackson Memorial Baptist Church, where he found community and faith. He was also a part of the National Lure Collectors Club, sharing his enthusiasm for fishing with like-minded individuals.
He is preceded in death by his beloved father, Frank Milton Farkas. He leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory forever: his mother, Jacqueline L. Farkas; his devoted wife of 28 years, Bonnie I. Farkas; his cherished daughter, Jesse Danielle Farkas Humphries and her husband Hunter; his adored granddaughter, Riverlyn Marie Humphries; and his dear sister, Joy M. Chapman and her husband Dave.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 1 p.m. at Jackson Memorial Baptist Church, with Pastor Tommy Larson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
Eric's legacy of love, laughter, and dedication will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
