Emmett Thomas Umphlett, Jr., 73, of Suffolk, VA passed away on November 26,2011. A native of Nansemond Co., VA, he was the son of the late Emmett Thomas Umphlett, Sr. and Helen Hayes Umphlett. Emmett retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a welder. He was member of Suffolk Moose Lodge #141 and served his country by serving in the National Guard for 8 years.


He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rose Marie Arrington Umphlett; daughters, Lois Marie Darden and husband Lin of Franklin and Thomasina L. Houk and friend Jennifer Savage of Suffolk; grandchildren: Thomas, Erin-Marie, Sheyenne, Shane-Michael and Tara; great grandchildren: Brooklyn Marie, Kyleigh Marie and Rhiannon Lynn; sister Nancy Thelma Buck and husband Kenny of Suffolk and special family friend Greg Haynes.

A funeral service, with Moose rites, will be held Thursday December 1,2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Charles Worth and Rev. Jim George officiating. Burial will be at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. Friends may join the family for a time of visitation on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 from 7 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
