Emily McLawhorn Brooks, 85, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully on March 16, 2024 at her daughter and son-law's home in Suffolk, VA. She was born in Ayden, NC the daughter of Hubert Lee McLawhorn and Helen Townsend McLawhorn.

Emily graduated from Norview High School where she met her sweetheart and future husband, Donald Lee Brooks, and attended Longwood University. She was a member of Holy Neck Christian Church. She was a gifted soprano and sang in church choirs her entire life as well as a barbershop quartet and other singing groups. She was a member of the Garden Club, the Rose society and a longtime member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapter AN in Virginia Beach and was a founding member of Chapter BX when she moved to Suffolk.

Emily is survived by her three children, Jeffrey Scott Brooks, Kevin Foster Brooks and Donna Brooks Clark, 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, brother-in-law, William H Rhue, and sister-in -law, Emily Brooks Eubanks.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday April 6, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Parr Funeral Home in Suffolk with Rev. Michael D. Halley officiating.  Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.  Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
