Elsie Marie Alexander Hoff's Obituary
I am sad to report my mother's passing. She spent 91 years on this earth. She was always her own woman. She had written much of her obituary. I, her son, Michael Gauthier, have chosen to add a few items she may have overlooked but will honor much of what she wrote.
Elsie Marie Hoff departed this life on November 22, 2017. She was a native of Memphis, TN. She had been a resident of Virginia for over 68 years. Marie retired as owner and beautician of Al-Mar Beauty Salon and Fashion Place Beauty Salon in Norfolk, VA and Zuni Beauty Salon in Zuni, VA. She was one of the hardest working persons I have ever known, man or woman. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert T. Hoff, and her eldest son, Thomas G. Rhinehart. Tommy's wife, Brenda, now lives in Florida.
All of mom's family has passed. I am the last. Mom has two grandchildren, Marie and Cassandra, from my brother, Tommy and his first wife, Carolyn. She has two great grandchildren, Alaina, Marie's daughter and Thomas, Cassandra's son. She has three grandchildren and two great grandchildren from me: Gabrielle and Christian from Michelle, my wife. Her granddaughter, Joy, my daughter from my first wife, Cindy, and Joy's two children, Jordan and Wyatt.
I would like to thank the many family and friends in Windsor, who helped Marie over these many years, allowing her to stay in her home, as she so desperately wanted. She wanted to remain (and did) independent.
At the end, mom chose not to have a ceremony of her life. She hated flowers as she grew older. "That is just a waste of money because they just die." If you feel compelled to do something in her memory, please send a contribution to the Windsor Volunteer Rescue Squad.
