Elma M. Luper, 92, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2011 surrounded by her loving family. She was a member of Sweethaven Baptist Church in Portsmouth and more recently attended Providence United Methodist Church of Suffolk. She retired from the Naval Air Station, Norfolk, as a property supply clerk, with 36 years of service.

Mrs. Luper was the daughter of the late William C. Moore and Carrie R. Moore. She was predeceased by husbands, Lawrence A. Hicks and Richard H. Luper, Jr.; brother, Ervin Moore; and sisters, Mary Morris, Lois Edwards, Annie Fields and Ella Virginia Moore.

Surviving are her daughter, Sandra H. Judy (Jake) of Suffolk; granddaughters, Pamela K. Holland (Joseph) of Suffolk, Katherine J. Sanoba (Michael) of Chesapeake; great grandchildren, Trey and Kelly Holland and Richie, Myles, Vance, and Grayson Sanoba; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Provence Place of Maryview, Portsmouth and Autumn Care Nursing Home of Suffolk for providing such compassionate care during her illness.

A graveside service at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 3920 Airline Blvd., Chesapeake, VA will be conducted Friday, December 30, 2011 at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Dr. Garland Hines.
