Smithfield: Edna Marie Jernigan, 73, died May 30, 2006.
She was a native of Nansemond County and was a former floor lady supervisor for Birdsong Peanut Company. Edna was the widow of Arthur Redell Jernigan Sr. and also a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
She was the daughter of the late Grace D. Morris Nelson and William Morris. Edna was also predeceased by a son, Arthur Redell Jernigan, Jr., a great-grandson, Nicholas Wayne Jernigan; sisters, Hattie Roberts, Tillie Blyth, Lillie Mae Copeland, and Lakie Babb; and brothers, James Morris and William C. Morris.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara J.and Curtis L. Harrell of Smithfield; grandchildren, Kenneth Jernigan and his wife Tanika, Angela Jernigan, and Dale Elwood Spivey; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Susie M. McClenny of Jacksonville, N.C., and Grover M. Barrett of Suffolk; and brother, John B. Nelson of Jacksonville, N.C.
Friends may join the family Thursday night from 7-8 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Barbara and Curtis Harrell.
A funeral service will be held Friday, June 2, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Danny Gray officiating. Burial will be at Holland Cemetery.
