Wendell Layton, 78, passed away November 12, 2017. He was born in Chowan County, NC the son of the late Elbert V. Layton and Maisewell V. Brinkley. He was predeceased by his step father, Paul J. Brinkley.  Wendell was a United States Air Force veteran.  He later went on to work and retire after 39 years as a Nuclear Pipe Welding Supervisor at Newport News Shipyard.  He was a member of Southside Baptist Church and Liberty Spring Ruritan Club.

Wendell is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carolyn E. Layton; sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Janice Layton, David and Brenda Layton; grandchildren, Justin and Cameron Layton; step grandchildren, Master Sgt. Tim Cutrell, Krista Williams, and Leslie Walker; 7 great grandchildren; sister, Mable Scott; and brother, Victor Layton.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, November 16, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens Chapel with Rev. J. C.
