Dorothy Mae Lawrence Stevenson, 79, wife of Dr. Pretlow Lee Stevenson, Jr. passed away May 12, 2024. She was born in Nansemond County, VA the daughter of the late Elizie Ollie Lawrence and Arleithia Brown Lawrence. She was predeceased by 8 siblings, and a great granddaughter, Tyrah Ann Powell. Dorothy retired as a school teacher from Suffolk Public Schools. She was a member of Covenant Community Church and was on the Board for Oasis Partners in Ministry. Dorothy loved catering, and was best known for mouth watering roast beef and delicious cakes and desserts.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 56 years, Dr. Pretlow Lee Stevenson, Jr.; children, Lisa Lynel Stevenson, Patricia Ann Emerson, Pretlow L. Stevenson III, Tiana Nickole Stevenson, and Jimmy Cooke; grandchildren, Tamika Shavonne Smith, Mark Anthony Powell Jr., Justice Monet Strong, Pretlow Stevenson IV, Zoe Stevenson, Victoria Stevenson, Micah Stevenson, Kyle Johnson, Michaela Cooke, Rachel Cooke, and Noah Cooke; great grandchild, Mark Powell III; siblings, Mary Tynes, Sarah Kester and Barbara Shelton; and numerous godchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
Friends may join the family for a time of visitation and viewing Friday night from 6:00-7:00p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Dr. Suffolk, VA 23434.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 2:00p.m. at Covenant Community Church with Pastor Harold McPherson officiating, 3504 Robs Dr., Suffolk, VA 23434.
Burial will follow at Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery, 2064 Nansemond Pkwy, Suffolk, VA 23434.
A repast will be held immediately following the burial at the house of Patricia Emerson, 6101 Gardenbrook Place, Suffolk, VA 23434
