Doris Lee Ellis Putman, 95, became "absent from the body, present with the LORD" and Savior on January 14, 2024.
She was born in Hopewell, VA to the late Willie Pat Holland Ellis and Leroy Ellis and was predeceased by her loving husband of 16 years, Robert Dean Putman, her sister, Marie Ellis Holland and her son-in-law, David Warner.
She loved the LORD, her family, Bible Studies, reading, her work, Christmas and "game night". She was a member of First Baptist Church, Suffolk, VA for 70 years and the Eunice Bible Class. She also cherished her friendship with the true "Golden Girls"- Virginia, Miriam, and Lydia.
Doris faithfully worked for Nansemond Cold Storage Co., Inc. for almost 63 years. She was still working part-time at the time of her health decline at Thanksgiving.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Darlene Parr (John); son, Thomas Heffington (Lou Ann); daughter, Paula Warner. Doris was blessed with eight grandchildren: Michella Newton (Joseph), Nicholas Parr (Jessica), Katherine Martin (Ryan); Michael Heffington (Rebekah); Zachary Warner, Timothy Warner, Wesley Warner and Andrea Eady (Brian) and 12 great-grandchildren with Luke to arrive in June 2024; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Doris is also survived by her step-son, Terrence Putman (Joyce); and step-daughters, Deborah Pierce (Garry), Amy Stocchi (Franco); and step-grandchildren, Ronald Schell (Leesa), Ryan Schell (Stacy), Robin Tucker, Teri Leigh Randall, Anna Stocchi, Emma Stocchi and Robert Stocchi (Kyra); 1 step-great grandchild and other to arrive in February 2024; sister-in-law Shelby Cole (Ben), Sharon Machinski and brother-in-law, Harold Putman (Joyce).
The family would like to thank Trinity Hospice for their care, attention and support, and also thank four faithful friends that provided love, devotion, and unbelievable support to our family during this journey: Brenda Cowan, Evy Thompson, Maryanna Strautmann, and Pat Fitchett.
A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, January 19, 2024 at 3 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home and Crematory with Pastor Thurman Hayes and David Edgell officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Lawn Cemetery.
