Obituary

Dennis Lea Meier, born on October 14, 1953, in Norfolk, Virginia, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 29, 2026, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, at the age of 72.

Throughout his life, Dennis contributed to the community by working in various capacities for the City of Norfolk. His dedication and work ethic were evident in his many years of service.

Dennis had a fondness for the outdoors, often spending time mowing the lawn or tinkering on bicycles and lawn mowers. He valued the simple joys of visiting with friends, family, and neighbors, and he had a particular passion for vintage cars. Dining out was another pleasure he enjoyed in life.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby Faye Stalvey Meier and Fonstill T. "Buddy" Meier; his beloved wife, Sylviadell Baker Meier; and his dear aunt, Bernice Andrews.

He leaves behind a circle of loving family and friends, including his dedicated cousin, Kim Andrews Hildebrand, her husband Daniel, and their daughter, Aspen Hildebrand. He also cherished his "horse," June, and maintained lifelong friendships with James Higgins, Cathy Robertson, and Linda Martin. His caring neighbors, Anglus, Godfrey, and Sylvia, were also an important part of his life.

A graveside service to honor Dennis will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Great Fork Baptist Church Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Matt Parron.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the Villages of Rosemont, reflecting Dennis's spirit of community and care for others.

Dennis will be remembered for his warm visits, big charitable heart, love of classic cars, and the joy he found in life's simple pleasures. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
