Dena Futrell, 72, passed away on February 21, 2008. She was a native of Gastonia, NC and resided in Suffolk for 48 years. In earlier years Dena was a waitress at Travelers Restaurant and Bunny's Restaurant. Later she became a Hair Dresser and owned Dena's Beauty Salon. The wife of the late Elton P. Futrell, Jr. of 38 years, she attended New Vision Community Church in Currituck County, N.C. She was the daughter of the late Grover Cleveland Davis and Annie Katherine Rountree. She was also predeceased by her brother, Jennings (Bud) Davis.

She is survived by two sisters, Janice Kiser of Crouse, NC and Pat Senter of Lincolnton, NC.; her children, Howard and Wanda Norris of Roseboro, NC , Larry Futrell of Birmingham, AL, Teresia and Michael Thorne of Elberon, VA, Genia and Pete DePriest of Newport News, VA, Tommy and Sharon Bowman of Elizabeth City, NC and Juanita and Steve Howard of Hertford, NC; grandchildren: Richard Norris, Rachel Wiggins, Renee Byrd, Christina Lynch, Shannon Scott, Travis Bowman, Tommy Twiddy, Steve Twiddy, Jesse and Cricket Howard; 26 great grandchildren, and her dear friend and companion, Cowboy Bob.


Friends may join the family at Parr Funeral Home and Crematory Sunday from 3 - 5 p.m. and other times at the residence. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Wayne Sawyer officiating. Interment will follow at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens in Suffolk, VA.
