David Allen Thomas, Sr., 70, of Virginia Beach, passed away on April 18, 2009. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of the late Samuel Richard and Wanda Arlene Young Thomas. David retired as a Staff Sergeant with over 20 years of service from the U.S. Air Force. David served multiple combat tours in Vietnam, with the honorable distinction of receiving two Airman's Medals for his gallant efforts in the defense of his country. He continued his passion for his country by serving as a Federal Police Officer for the United States Department of the Navy at the Norfolk Naval Base. Sergeant Thomas was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and Veterans of Foreign Wars. During his forty-five years of service to his country, David received numerous awards and decorations.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy L. Abbott and Dwayne Abbott of Chester, VA; son and daughter-in-law, David Allen Thomas, Jr., and Kim Thomas of Clermont, FL; grandchildren, Wayne, Chris, Annie, and Jonny. David is loved and will be missed by many other family and friends.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at 1 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Dr., Suffolk, VA 23434 with Pastor Steve Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at Albert G.Horton Memorial Veterans Cemetery with military honors. Friends may join the family from 12-1 p.m. prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
