Obituary

Sergeant Major David Lee Langley (Retired), 89, passed away in his home with his loved ones on May 5th, 2023.  Born in Pitt County, NC, he was the son of the late James Wilson and Pattie Langley Daniels.  He is predeceased by his son, David Earl Langley; mother, Pattie Langley Daniels; father, James Wilson; sisters, Mable Daniels, Jessie Wallace, Lillie Johnson; grandson Aaron W. Neace.  David retired from the United States Army after 30 years of decorated service, participating in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. David joined Ninth and Lee church where he accepted Christ as his Savior.  He became a member of Cameron Church of God under the leadership of Pastor Mahlon Denmark where he faithfully served as a Sunday School Teacher, Trustee, and board member before relocating to Durham, NC,  and later to Carrollton, VA.  David dedicated his life to God, his loving wife, children, country, and the Dallas Cowboys.

David is survived by his wife of 69 years, Verna Mae Tatum Langley; sons, Kevin Langley (Angela), D.L. Langley (Toni), Derrick Langley (Lynn), Greg Langley; daughter-in-law, Kathy Langley; grandchildren, Jeremy, David Sean, Shevonna, Demetrius (Kellynn), Alan, Adriana, Danesha (Collan), Dannielle, Raven (Dennis), Dante, Domanic (Meg), Trey (Brooke), Kayleigh; great grandchildren, MeAshja, Montazia, Andrew, Aiden, Asher, and Adam; siblings -  sisters: twins Darlyn Crandell (James) and Geraldine Dudley, Audrey Jeanett, Linda Coleman, Clara Staton, Glady Goff, Sophia Ross, Fannie Ruchker; brothers: Charlie J. Daniels Jr., Jerry L. Lewis Daniels, Alton Ray Daniels (Vivian), Sirloin Daniels, Willie Wilson (Mamie), Charles Wilson (Judy), Gregory Wilson, Alvin Wilson (Audrey); and also Briana Stevens, his devoted caregiver of 3 years and a host of  nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, May 22, 2023 at 1 p.m., at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory with Eulogist Reverend Kevin Langley (son), and Reverend John Jefferson officiating.  Burial with military honors will follow at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.  Friends may join the family for a time of visitation Sunday afternoon from 2-3 p.m., at the funeral home.  Memorial donations may be made to the Luter Family YMCA.  Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
