David J. Dunn died peacefully in his home on April 27, 2009 with his wife at his side. He was born on October 12, 1936 to the late David Dunn and Grace Arledge Dunn. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rose Dunn, daughter Darlene Wilson (Tommy), sons Mike Dunn (Elaine), Tony Dunn (Trisha) and Steve Dunn (Patty), Grandchildren Marcia Carter(Martin), Frances Coulbourn (Ed), Jessica Carr (Chris), Kelley Saunders (David), Charles Dunn, Adam Walker, Megan Dunn, Kristin Dunn, Emily Wilson, Evan Wilson and 5 great grandchildren David and Zachary Carter, Aiden and Jade Saunders, and Emma Coulbourn, and a sister Bonnie Newton. He was predeceased by brothers, Charles Dunn, Donald Dunn, Leroy Dunn and sister, Helen Creamer.

He retired from the US Navy with 20 years of service and later from Holmes Brothers Enterprises. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve, Four O Club and VFW Branch 4411. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. In later years, he enjoyed watching NASCAR and Professional Bull Riding. He also spent countless nights playing cards and the VA Lottery. The family wishes to thank the kind staff at Southampton Dialysis for their loving care and to assure his longtime military buddies that he remained a "Turtle".

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Dr., Suffolk, VA with Rev. Robert Bunn officiating. Burial will follow in Holland Cemetery with military honors.
