Obituary

Darci Lynne McCormick Tomczak, 41, passed away on Saturday, March 13, 2021 following a courageous six-year battle with cancer.  She was surrounded by her loved ones who will honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest and meeting challenges head on just as she did.  She was born in Tunkhannock, PA to the late Deborah Ann Guilbault and James Ronald McCormick.  Following graduation from Tunkhannock Area High School in 1998 she proudly served in the US Air Force during which time she met her husband.  She left the service only to become a loving and devoted mother to her two sons who were the center of her universe.

She had a lasting impact on the lives of many people with her infectious smile, tremendous generosity and ability to maintain her strong sense of humor regardless of the challenges she was facing.  An avid athlete growing up, she enjoyed life's simple pleasures and was the happiest when she was spending countless days and nights at the ballfield both coaching and watching her sons play baseball throughout the years.  She cared deeply for her friends and family and would be the first to help someone with whatever they needed; doing so not out of obligation but because that's who she was.  She had a special gift in her ability to connect with children; treating all as if they were her own ensuring that they felt safe, healthy, and happy.  Few people knew the extent to which she was hurting because she always put on her best smile while telling everyone "at least it's not my babies".

Darci is lovingly remembered by her loving husband of 18 years, Eric Michael Tomczak; sons, Konnor James and Chase Robert Tomczak; sisters, Karianne McCormick-Filer (Dominick) and Kami McCormick (Kyle); brother, Scott McCormick; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as many friends who were blessed to know her.

Darci's memorial service will be held at a later date.  The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Suffolk Youth Athletic Association Baseball program.  A special thank you to the staff at Sentara Obici Hospital and Virginia Oncology Associates for their compassion and support throughout the years.
