Obituary

Daniel Clarence Kelley, 59, of Wyoming, Michigan, passed away on August 18, 2024 after losing his battle with cancer, surrounded by his family.

Daniel was born on April 5th 1965, to Gordon and Marcia Kelley in El Paso, Texas. Daniel received his Associates Degree in General Studies Science from Colorado Technical University.

Daniel will be greatly missed by his loving wife Joanne, his children, Branden, Amanda McDaniel (Zach), Bryan, his 3 grandchildren (Ryvre, Ezra, and Gauge), father, Gordon, siblings, Gordon, Donna, Kathy, Annette, and Shawn, mother in-law, Nedila numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and a host of United States Navy shipmates.

Daniel is preceded in death by his mother Marcia.

Daniel had the biggest heart and the most beautiful smile. He was far from a private and quiet person, but also very witty and fun! He was fearless and independent, yet sensitive and incredibly compassionate. They were part of who he was, and his strength undoubtedly helped him deal with life's challenges. Dec 2022, Daniel was diagnosed and had a long, fight with Small Cell Lung Cancer.

He loved family times, playing with his grandkids, the beach, camping, dogs and cats, and building model cars. He was strong-willed and stubborn, but those traits defined Daniel.

Daniels love for the military was evident from day one. He enlisted in 1985 and retired in 2009 after 24 years. Daniels highest honor was achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He was active in local Chief Petty Officer Association events throughout his retirement. He has maintained a close relationship with his former shipmates.

A Funeral Service with military honors will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home in Suffolk with Chief Petty Officer Tim Gustafson officiating. Daniel will be laid to rest at Kent Memorial 7101 Clyde Park Ave SW, Byron Center, MI.

The family is requesting no business or formal attire for the funeral.  Hawaiian shirts are welcome.
