Obituary

Dallas Harold De Vinney, Jr., 91, went to be with the Lord September 10, 2012. He served in WWII in the Pacific Theater as a photographer, intelligence officer and war correspondent, and was wounded on Guam by sniper fire. At the end of WWII he led a boarding party to disarm Japanese submarines and accept surrender of their crews. He also served in combat during the Korean conflict. After 22 years of naval service he worked as a criminal investigator for the Naval Investigative Service (now NCIS), serving in Norfolk, Seattle, Guam, and Hawaii, covering a period of 18 years. As an avid scouter and Scout Master of BSA Troop 33, Norfolk, he led 30 scouts on a two week 50 mile trek through the Sangre De Christo Mountains, NM. During retirement he toured the U.S. and Canada; served as a Lay Leader for St. Barnabus Episcopal Church, Lafayette, LA; cared for his aging mother; volunteered as a substance abuse counselor and taught reading skills to inmates. In 2004 he came to Virginia Beach to live with family.

He is survived by sons, William Robert of Virginia Beach, VA, John Francis of Indianapolis, IN and Dallas Michael of Suffolk, VA; brother, William Blair of Tucson, AZ; sisters Bonnie Jo De Vinney Walsh of Fort Wright, KY and Charlotte De Vinney of Denton, TX; nine grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.

Following a private service, Mr. De Vinney will be interred with his late wives Lucie Parr De Vinney and Jamie Whitney De Vinney in Suffolk, VA. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com
