Obituary

Christopher Robert Baugh, a beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on April 5, 2026, in Suffolk, Virginia, at the age of 52. Born on September 19, 1973, in Fairfax County, Virginia, Chris lived a life filled with love, dedication, and kindness.

Chris received dual Master’s Degrees in Educational Instructional Technology and Information System Design and Literature, Language and Composition from Virginia Tech University. He began his professional career as a middle school English teacher with Suffolk Public Schools. His innovative use of technology in the classroom led him to become the Supervisor of Information Services and Systems in the Technology Department for Suffolk Public Schools for seven years. Chris continued his work in public education working for the School District of Philadelphia as a Director of Accountability and Assessment. While in Philadelphia, Chris moved into the private education sector continuing his work in research, data management, and information technology development. Upon his return to Virginia, Chris worked at Stride, Inc. as a talented Data Product Solution Architect, known for his keen intellect and innovative spirit. Customers and colleagues alike appreciated his ability to solve hard problems in efficient and scalable ways.

Outside of his professional life, Chris’s hobbies reflected his passion for exploring, learning, and sharing these experiences with others. Chris’s love of adventure led him and Elizabeth to explore many countries together in addition to living in Philadelphia for six years. Among the most memorable of adventures was getting married to Elizabeth at Edinburgh Castle in Scotland among a small group of family and friends. Traveling tapped into Chris’s interests in learning and being creative as he enjoyed exploring new cuisines and then cooking and sharing meals with family and friends. Chris also enjoyed gardening and used the bounty of produce each season to create meals using the vegetables that he and Elizabeth grew. Nothing gave him more pleasure than sharing both vegetables and meals with family and friends. Chris found inspiration in music and would play his guitar, often learning favorite songs that he and Elizabeth shared so that he could play those for her. Chris was a board game enthusiast and shared his passion of gaming with friends and family, bringing laughter and camaraderie to those around him. No greater joy existed for Chris than to share his knowledge and passion for learning with those around him whether in his professional or personal life.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Robert Baugh, Jr.; his maternal grandfather, Dewey Scarborough; and his paternal grandparents, Jerry Baugh, Sr., and Gertrude Baugh. Christopher leaves behind a loving family, including his cherished wife of 19 years, Mary Elizabeth Baugh; his devoted mother, Donna Scarborough Baugh; and his maternal grandmother, Betty Scarborough. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Jonathan and Leah Baugh; his sister Jennifer Baugh; his brother-in-law, Norman Grefe, III; and his adored nieces and nephew, Taylor, Jessica, Hannah, and Bryce. Numerous extended family members, friends, and colleagues will also remember him fondly. The family would like to express their most sincere appreciation to staff at Bon Secours Hospice by Compassus for their care and compassion.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 1 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, honoring Chris’s memory and his generous spirit.
