With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Charles Augustus Rountree, our loving and devoted grandfather, father, and friend to all those he touched, on Monday February 21, 2022. Charles left us peacefully, while surrounded by family that loved him greatly. He was 85 years old.

Charles lived a long and full life. He was born on May 12, 1936, in Southampton County, Virginia to Charlie and Eliza Rountree. The youngest of six children, his work ethic and desire to take care of his family led him to a lifelong career as a painter.

Charles spent most of his time in the Hampton Roads area where family and friends will forever have vivid memories of going to work with him, fishing, crabbing, and putting puzzles together. He loved to cook; family will always remember the smell of his fried chicken, and chicken and dumplings. Charles would spend many days at the ball field with his children. He never knew a stranger and would always make anyone feel welcomed. Anyone that truly knew Charles, knew that he had the biggest of hearts.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Norfleet and Eliza Turner Rountree: brother, Edward Rountree; and sisters, Annie Lee Morris, Sallie Pierce, and Virgilia Pierce.

Left to carry on the memory of Charles is his sister, Elizabeth Wimmer; children, Barbara Rountree, Charles N. Rountree, Robin Rountree-Key, Kimberly Hauser, Pamela Rountree-Moore (David), and Jeremy Rountree (LaTasha); grandchildren, Jamie Shaffer (Chris), Brian Pomas, Jeremy Domingo, Ashley Rountree, Cody Miller, Brandon Davis (Lupe), and David Davis; great-grandchildren, Sebastian Shaffer, Lane Pomas, and Avianna Davis; and many other family members.

We will miss Charles dearly, but we are so grateful for the time that we got to spend with him. We will always feel his presence in our hearts.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Holly Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at Parr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk, Virginia 23434. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
