Charles Edgar Jones, Sr., 78, of Rescue, VA passed away August 10, 2010. He was born in Newport News but a lifelong member of Rescue he was the son of the late Mary Virginia Manning Jones and Wyatt Charles Jones. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army. Charles retired in 1995 after 28 years as a Captain with the Virginia Marine Police. He was a member of Riverview United Methodist Church, Rescue Battery Park Ruritan Club, American Legion George F. Dashiell Post #49 of Smithfield, and was a former member of the Commonwealth Chorus.

Charles is survived by his wife of 58 years, Phyllis Ward Jones; sons, Charles E. "Cracker" Jones, Jr. and wife, Judy of Alamogordo, NM; Thomas W. "Windy" Jones and wife Pixie of Battery Park, VA; brother, William R. "Billy" Jones of Rescue; sister, Margaret J. Gray and husband, Edward of Whitefish, MT; grandchildren, Jeremy, Kristen, Derek, and Dina; 3 great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Friday, August 13, 2010 at 11 a.m. at St. Luke's Memorial Park with Rev. Leon Basham officiating. Friends may join the family Thursday night from 6-8 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Dr., Suffolk, VA 23434.
